I am not crafty

Let me start of by saying, if I can do this, anyone can totally do this. I am so not anywhere near being showcased on Pinterest, but this was so incredibly easy and I am in love with them! I had to share with you what I made on a whim. It was more of what can I do with the kids today so they don't kill each other, and this is what we came up with. I rummaged through the cupboards to see what I had a lot of....salt, flour, and random spices. I then googled what I could make with those random items. TADA....Salt ornaments. Let me tell you though, we were lucky to find any cookie cutters in this house, because this momma does not bake, but surprisingly, I found some deep down in a drawer or never ending junk.

This was so easy, I'm telling you SOOOOOOO EASY, but my house smells amazing now, so keep reading, I promise you will want to make some too. My kids totally loved every second of it, we did semi destroy the iPad in the mix of things, but that is another blog...I mean you can't have nice things with three kids helping you in the kitchen. Okay okay, here is what you need:

2 cups flour

1 cup salt

1 cup water

2 tsp ground ginger

2 tsp cinnamon

2 tsp ground clove 2 tsp nutmeg (this I could not find in my cupboards, so I used 2 drops of Nutmeg essential oil) 10 drops of Orange essential oil (young living of course)

We poured all the dry ingredients into a bowl, added the oils and stirred it up. Willow never wears clothes around the house, she legit undresses the second we come home from anywhere, so I am forever thankful she wore an apron so I could at least legally take pictures. Once we stirred up the dry ingredients, we slowly added the water the mixture. It became a workable piece of dough after some kneading and getting our hands dirty.

Next we rolled it out onto the counter with a rolling pin. This was fun...lol...our entire counter was full of dough because each child had their own bowl.

Okay, now after we rolled out the dough, we used our only star cookie cutter that we owned and made a gazillion star cutouts. We used a small metal straw to put holes in each star. Then we placed onto cookie sheets. I set the oven on the lowest temperature I thought was safe (170 degrees) and put them in the oven for one hour.

So, the next part, the kids wanted absolutely nothing to do with, but I enjoyed it very much. Basically, you could hang each star individually as an ornament or use it to hang wherever, but I decided to hang mine on a string to use as a garland type decoration. I tied a knot on each end of the star on the string they would be spaced apart. I'm in love with them! How adorable are they!

Let me tell you, the aroma coming off of these strands is incredible. I was gone all day today, when I arrived home, the aroma that hit me when I walked in the door was heavenly. Not a single diffuser was on, it was the smell of each of these strands I hung around the house! And they look so adorable! Have fun & get messy!
